Bookkeeping Services in Spokane, Washington

Spokane County

Working with Spokane business owners

Spokane is about forty minutes west of our office and is the largest market in the Inland Northwest. We work with Spokane businesses the same way we work with Idaho ones — monthly reconciliation, clear financial statements, payroll setup, and year-end filings — with one important difference.

Washington's tax structure is not Idaho's, and bookkeeping that ignores the difference creates problems that only surface when a filing comes due.

Washington's books work differently than Idaho's

Washington has no personal income tax, which owners tend to hear as good news and stop there. What replaces it is the Business & Occupation tax, levied on gross receipts rather than on profit — meaning you can owe it in a year you lost money. It is also tiered by classification: retailing, wholesaling, and service each carry a different rate, and a business doing more than one has to split its receipts between them.

Add destination-based sales tax, where the rate follows where the customer takes delivery rather than where you are, and L&I workers' compensation premiums reported by hours worked rather than by wages, and Washington bookkeeping diverges from Idaho's in several places at once. We track receipts by B&O classification and hours for L&I from the start, so the filings are a lookup rather than a reconstruction.

What we handle for Spokane clients

  • Monthly Account Reconciliation Every bank and credit card transaction reviewed, categorized, and balanced each month so your records always match reality and you stay prepared for tax season.
  • Financial Reports Monthly profit & loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports written in plain language so you can make informed decisions about your business.
  • Payroll Setup & Support We get you set up correctly on Gusto, sort out worker classification, and keep the payroll entries reconciled against your books. Gusto runs the payroll itself.
  • 1099 Filing You collect the W-9s from your contractors; we track the payments through the year and prepare and file the 1099-NECs in January, so the deadline is a non-event.
  • Book Clean-Up & Catch-Up Behind on your books? We correct errors, bring your records current, and set up systems that keep you organized going forward.
