Monthly Bookkeeping & Financial Reports
Monthly Bookkeeping & Financial Reports
Monthly bookkeeping is the recurring work that keeps your records true: every transaction categorized, every account reconciled against its statement, and a set of financial statements produced while the details are still fresh in everyone's memory.
The real value is not the reports themselves. It is that errors get caught in the month they happen, when someone can still remember what the transaction was for. A mistake found in March costs a few minutes. The same mistake found the following February costs an afternoon of detective work, and sometimes an amended return.
Monthly service is probably right if
- You are keeping up with the books yourself and would rather not be
- You want to know your numbers before your CPA tells you in April
- You are making decisions about hiring, equipment, or pricing and want real data behind them
- A lender or landlord asks you for financials periodically
- You have outgrown spreadsheets but are nowhere near needing a controller
- You want tax season to be a non-event
What each month looks like
-
Onboarding and chart of accounts review
We connect to your accounting file and fix the structural problems that make reports hard to read. Most files we inherit have accumulated redundant or misused accounts over the years, and no amount of careful monthly work produces a clear report on top of a messy chart of accounts.
-
Transaction categorization
Bank and credit card activity is categorized against your actual business rather than against generic software defaults. Anything genuinely ambiguous comes back to you as a single batch of questions once a month, not as a trickle of interruptions.
-
Reconciliation
Every account is reconciled to its statement, every month. This is the step that gets skipped in do-it-yourself bookkeeping, and it is precisely the step that catches errors before they compound.
-
Statements and a plain-language note
You get a profit & loss, a balance sheet, and a cash flow statement — plus a short note on anything worth your attention. Numbers without commentary are just a wall of numbers.
-
Year-end close and handoff
The books close cleanly at year end and go to your tax preparer in the format they actually want, which is the difference between a quick return and a long one.
Common questions
-
QuickBooks Online is what we work in, and a subscription is required — the fee is yours and is not included in our pricing. If you are currently on something else, we will talk through whether migrating actually makes sense for you.
-
On average our clients pay $300-$500 per month. The price depends on transaction volume, how many accounts are involved, and whether payroll is included. Every quote is individual, and you get it before you commit to anything.
-
If your books are current when we start, the first month's statements arrive shortly after that month closes. If they are behind, we start with a clean-up project first so the ongoing reports are built on accurate history.
-
No. Questions come to you batched once a month rather than one at a time, and the statements arrive on a predictable schedule without you having to ask.
-
Always. It is your accounting file and you retain full access to it. Nothing about working with us puts your own records behind a gate.

I am a small business owner in Fresno, CA. I am very happy with Bear River Bookkeeping Services. They are professional, knowledgable and courteous. They have given me and my business a sense of order in these crazy times. Rhonda is super nice and smart. I don't want to think what I would do without her.
- Nicol C. Off the Tracks
Rhonda is an exceptional bookkeeper who went above and beyond for our company. She cleaned up over a year of errors left by a previous bookkeeper, bringing stability and clarity to the finances of our three businesses. Her expertise and dedication have been truly transformational.
- Adam S. Adam Built
Bear River Bookkeeping rescued my business out of 3 years of shoeboxes in the closet to full audit ready P&L, Balance Sheet, and Income Statements in less than 90 days. They helped with a manageable tax plan and get out from under years of bad habits with FTB and IRS. I can't thank Rhonda and her team enough for allowing me to sleep at night for the first time in a long time.
